Two weeks ago I suggested keeping an eye on the final races of the Formula 1 championship. Things were heating up and heading for the most exciting finish in years, Now, after the Singapore Grand Prix, the championship fight has gotten even better. It's still very much a five-way horse race but with four races to go the order has changed dramatically.

Some athletes rise to the occasion and some don't. Jimmie Johnson is one of those athletes that rises to the top of the class when the pressure is on him. He just won the NASCAR race at Dover International Speedway and had a dominating performance. His team has not exactly been hitting on all cylinders lately and they could have been doing better.

With last weekend's kickoff of perhaps the last NFL season before a possible strike cancels the 2011 games (and wouldn't NASCAR love that) thousands upon thousands of fantasy football players resumed their annual addiction.   At the same time 2010 fantasy racing leagues are coming to an end as this weekend's round one of the Chase marks the countdown from 10 'til the end of the NASCAR season.

Go to a collector car auction and you’ll hear astronomic numbers – seven-figure dollar amounts -- being bid on old race cars. And to think, it wasn’t all that long ago that last year’s race cars were, well, junk. Once the season was over, what had been a state-of-the-art racing machine was obsolete, and therefore worthless. That had no value beyond the fact that maybe their chassis and perhaps some of their parts might be able to be reused next season.

Have you followed Formula 1 lately? If you haven't, you are missing a great show.  Formula 1 is supposedly not popular in the United States, but I'm constantly surprised by how many Americans follow it.  And why not the World's top series which, after a period of relative boredom with one team (Ferrari) and one driver (Schumacher) dominating, has been serving up season after season of drama and "down to the last race" suspense.

At one race away from the ten race Chase for the Sprint Cup Series Championship, I feel I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. My driver, along with the top 10 series drivers, is pretty much locked into the Chase for the Cup.  However, just like last season, I am left wondering if the Chase doesn’t need to be changed slightly.
