Kyle Busch Racing into History
Sometimes we watch auto racing and think, "wow that was some great driving that guy just did". Sometimes we don't realize we are watching a piece of history because it is coming at us in real time.
What Kyle Busch pulled off last weekend is something that is really amazing. I am not a Kyle Busch fan but I have to give credit where credit is due. Kyle won all three races at Bristol last weekend. Winning one race is tough enough at that track. In case you don't know, Bristol is a short little track that they call the "world's fastest half mile".
Most of the time you end up in a wreck or have some serious damage to your car since there is a lot of beating and banging going on. It all started on Wednesday night as Kyle Busch had a fast truck in practice but had to do an equipment change which meant he started in the back on the pack. Just overcoming this obstacle and winning the race is amazing. Here is Kyle in the back with a bunch of slower trucks and inexperienced drivers. Getting through that and not getting collected into someone's wreck is amazing. He not only won the race, the truck was so dominant it was fun to watch.
Friday night was the Nationwide series and here is Kyle driving like a maniac again. Once again not getting collected into a wreck at this place is probably the greatest feat and Kyle was able to keep his car clean and totally win the race. I am sitting on my couch thinking. "wow, Kyle has had some weekend so far and yet, he can't possibly win the Sprint cup race on Saturday. I am thinking that his feud with Brad Kesolowski will keep him from winning all three races. I can totally see Brad put Kyle into the wall late in the race so he can't sweep the weekend.
Saturday night's race was once again very exciting and when my favorite driver Jimmie Johnson became tangled in a wreck I was sitting there with no interest, finding myself in an awkward place. I could feel myself rooting for a driver I don't like at all. I figure it would be cool to see Kyle's post race burnout and his salute to the fans. His post race press conference would be great television. This is also great for NASCAR, so if it is good for NASCAR then it is good for me. Anything to get the sport promoted more is great ,and this is right up Sportscenter's alley.
Needless to say Kyle won the race and even the reporters were at a loss for words as they knew they just saw something that odds are they will never see again, especially on a short track. No driver has ever sweep a weekend of the three races in a weekend until now. History has just been made and I was able to watch it all happen. Thank you Kyle Busch for giving us fans an exciting weekend of racing.
