Wheels of Wellness Highlights Women in Racing

Mark your calendars right now: You want to be in Phoenix come January 16, 2011, where current and former legends of American motorsports will participate in a racing car show, panel discussion, and an exclusive preview of the Women in the Winner’s Circle exhibition.

The event is the fourth annual Wheels of Wellness vintage race car showcase, which brings a couple dozen historic racing cars to the grounds around The Wellness Community in downtown Phoenix. For 2011, the emphasis will be on American-built cars of the ‘50s and ‘60s, including the Scarab raced by Lance Reventlow, and there will be a special display of vintage racing motorcycles.

An annual highlight of the show, which runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., is a Legends of Motorsports panel discussion among drivers. For 2011, those sitting behind the microphones will be Dario Franchitti, Danica Patrick, Bobby Rahal, Justin Bell, Desire Wilson, Denise McCluggage and Lyn St. James, who moderates the group.

Billed as a special highlight for 2011 is the preview of the Women in the Winner’s Circle exhibit that begins a national tour in conjunction with The Henry Ford museum. The 600-square-foot exhibit documents this history and accomplishments of women in motorsports.

Tickets are $75, but that money benefits The Wellness Community, which provides free services to those battling cancer and to their families.
